Last week, the U.S. Supreme Court deadlocked and thereby failed to rule on President Barack Obama's immigration plan to shield millions more immigrants living in the U.S. illegally from deportation and grant them work permits.

Because a lower court ruled against the program, it is effectively dead for the rest of Obama's term in office.

Two federal agencies: The Bureau of Land Management and the Environmental Protection Agency, are enacting rules and regulations to reduce methane releases into the atmosphere.

The rules are being praised by environmentalists, but the oil and gas industry is in opposition.

Tom Trowbridge has the point of view on these rules from the perspective of the New Mexico Oil and Gas Association and its communications director, Wally Drangmeister.

A coalition of environmental organizations, both local and nationwide, last week released a map displaying "hot-spots" for methane emissions, which correspond to New Mexico's many oil and gas facilities.

The coalition is concerned that New Mexicans living around these facilities face increased health risks.
