Today's Dateline New Mexico: Four days into fighting the Cajete Fire in the Jemez Mountains last week, the Santa Fe National Forest reported spending close to $1.5 million to combat the blaze that temporarily uprooted nearby residents. The blaze charred 14-hundred acres.

SFNF officials report an abandoned campfire was the cause of the Cajete Fire.

With that in mind, Tom Trowbridge spoke with Wendy Mason, the N.M. State Forestry Division's Wildfire Prevention and Conservation Coordinator about wildfire safety.
