The New Mexico Legislative Finance Committee begins three days' worth of meetings starting this (July 27) morning at the Ruidoso campus of Eastern New Mexico University.

As Tom Trowbridge reports, the LFC meetings come on the heels of Democratic Senator John Arthur Smith's call for a special legislative session to contend with New Mexico's bleak revenue forecast.

Last week, the U.S. Supreme Court deadlocked and thereby failed to rule on President Barack Obama's immigration plan to shield millions more immigrants living in the U.S. illegally from deportation and grant them work permits.

Because a lower court ruled against the program, it is effectively dead for the rest of Obama's term in office.
